How to maintain your fitness???

Fatness to Fitness

Do one thing. Compare pre marriage photograph of your father with your latest photograph. What is the difference? No doubt there are many differences but the major difference is tummy. Your Dad’s tummy was not separately shown in the photograph as in yours. Comparatively at your age, Papaji was slim than you. Why these two tummies are incomparable? What is the reason for this change?

The main reason is changed life style. How our life style differs from our ancestral life style?

In the present scenario machines plays an important part. Nobody live without machines. You want Motor cycle for travel, Computer for work, Mobile for Communication, Air Conditioner for prevent heat, Refrigerator for cooling water, Lift instead of climbing stairs etc. From a small need to big need we have to depend on machines. Survival without machines is impossible. There is no argument that machine make our life easy, comfortable and convenient. But side by side it gives us what? A fatty body and an enlarge tummy. Comforts given by machine make us lazy. In earlier ages people do more physical work. Most of the people use bicycles for travel in their town and walk in case of short distance. But that get replaced with Motorcycle. Unavailability of time and wide spread urbanization has made the use of bicycles at minimal level. According to survey in year 1978, 67% youths of Punjab state are physically fit to join military and after 22 years position is reversed. In 2010 only 33% of Punjab youths are physically fit to join military.

Heavy workloads on youth are also making their life style poor. In the era of Globalization everybody was running for a good job. There is cut throat competition and widespread change in technology that create huge burden on the mind. Today’s youth have time for everything but not for him. Due to excess tasks in offices they have to work for odd hours. In India generally offices start at 10AM in the morning and when it ends is still a mystery. Night time is the time when your body releases chemicals and juices for digestion of food. Emerging BPO’s, works in night time to collaborate with foreign country timings and late night sittings are become a part of essential office culture. Sorry to say that plays havoc with your digestion system and a main reason of enlarge tummies.

Basic Indian foods are Dal-roti and Chawal-bhaat. Westernization have changed our culture and give us food which is fast to cook and very tasty. Burgers, patties, Pizzas, Pastas etc. are very delicious. These all are commonly known as JUNK FOOD. These all are the gift of western culture to our country. But its ill effects cannot be ignored. These are delicious and uncontrollable to eat and their major nutritional ingredients are carbohydrates and saturated fats. In these days Heart diseases are increasing at alarm rate because of heavy consumption of Junk foods as these contains saturated fats which get stored and block the veins.

People have no time to exercise and take care of them. Their focus towards money and save their existing job. Increasing use of fertilizers and food adulteration is enough to make anybody sick. These lower the immunity of a person. And situation get more worsen when person only consume and put no efforts to digest. No exercise means give entry to unusual diseases.

Dependencies on machines, late night sittings, extra burden on mind, unusual consumption of junk food and moreover no time to exercise add fat and make the body home of diseases. Generally Chartered Accountants and CA students’ faces above discussed problems. Students have burden of studies along with responsibility of office. Long sitting in office and in home for exam preparation ads make body fattier. Students wake up early in the morning for classes and in day time they attend offices. Generally four hour classes, eight hour office and three hour traveling leave no time for them to take care of themselves.

Now let me share some most common and easy to follow tips for fitness. Tips require no extra time but only a little bit change in habits. Major problem is not lack of exercise but is change in habits. Increase comfort level is a common thing but how to make a balance with your fitness is an issue.

EXCESSIVE CONSUMING

Let us start from eating habits. When you do audit of any client, he offers you variety of foods and drinks especially junk. And you keep on taking. The main purpose of client is to divert your focus from audit. This especially happens during bank audits because more NPA’s of a bank mean liquidity crunches. It benefits them because your diverted focus not makes you to find more queries. But it has a disadvantage for you, make you fatty.

For that I advice make a habit of say no. Avoid consuming junk foods. ‘No’ is a negative word but we had to be negative when question of our health arises.

“DON’T EAT THAT WHICH YOUR TOUNGUE LIKES BUT EAT THAT WHICH YOUR TUMMY CAN DIGEST”

USE STAIRS INSTEAD OF LIFTS

I never understand when anyone is able to climb stairs than why he uses lifts. Lifts are for those people who cannot climb stairs and who are in hurry. Lifts are not for healthy people. Friends always use stairs (if you have time) and avoid lifts. This is a good step for good fitness.

HOME FOOD

In comparison of outside food home food is healthy and nutritious. However it is not delicious in comparison to outside food but in terms of health it is best. Generally in audits client provide lunch, sometime this is prepared in clients own mess/canteen or any outside branded / unbranded food. It’s difficult for anybody to reject client offering of lunch. It’s not a question of status but who want to lose free offerings. Chartered accountants mean money savers of client. When it come to own money saving which CA or CA students don’t want to grasp the opportunity. But that free food only and only costs your health. I strongly advise always bring your home made lunch cooked by your lovely muma with you even lunch is offered by client. No doubt nothing is more costly than health.

For those students who don’t live with their parents I advised always eat light and healthy food. Never go for branded always Eat Light and Jiyo Light.

OTHER TIPS

Avoid junk foods. Avoid burger, patties, pastas, pasta, pastries etc. However I don’t advice complete avoidance but taking should be in acceptable limit. Don’t take Junk food as main course or when you feel hungry but take it only for taste. For fill the bowl anyone can take fruits, roasted chanas, salads like carrot, reddish etc. Moreover these are easily available with any hawker.

Stop taking cold drinks. These are major source of fat. Experts compare cold drinks with Toilet Cleaner. Tongue like cold drinks a lot. But if we talk about our tummies it says NO TO COLDDRINKS.

Two or three teas are enough in a single day. More than that is not good for health. Always drink double water after half hour of tea. It kills toxics of tea.

Drink 3 – 4 liters of waters daily. It improves digestion system.

Never mix up your professional and personal life. Never bring office to your home. Forget office tensions and work in home. Live a cool personal life. It makes your mind relax and cool.

LOL (laugh out louder).Smile is the solution of the conflicts. Always bring a smile on your face. Whenever talk with anybody give a little smile.

Chat online/offline with friends make mind relax. Friends are an important part of life. Life is incomplete without friends. Share your feelings and emotions with friends give mental stability.

MEDITATION

Above lines are only for fitness of body. Now talk about for mind. Our mind is CPU of our body. How to control the burden on mind? No any single day gone when mind have not to passes through vein bursting session.

The best way to fit our mind is MEDITATION.

What meditation does?

  • It focuses energy towards the right and positive direction.

  • It converts or ends the negative energy.

  • It improves concentration and enhances memory.

  • It improves decision making.

  • Major benefit of meditation is it works as modem which connects our intuitive intelligence to cosmic intelligence.

  • Meditation also acts as cooling agent. It cools mind by give direction to thoughts and feelings towards ultimate goal.

How to do meditation?

There are so many types and methods of meditation but here we discuss simple one.

Best way to do meditation is CHANTING OF GAYATRI MAHAMANTRA 108 TIMES. Chanting is to be done in normal voice. For do the chanting sit in cross leg position, start chanting and count on your fingers. No need to use beads. Our one hand has four fingers and each finger has three columns. It means total twelve columns in one hand. And for 108 times one hand is to be counted nine times.

It gives relief from frustration, Stress and tension. A feeling of relaxation is the output of a meditation. After doing meditation for a number of days people start giving feed back. They feel a change in you. However you may not feel the change.

CONCLUSION

Nothing is costlier than health. If you lose your health you lose everything. Overall: -

Creative Study

Creative study
First of all I am really thankful to all for appreciating my DiL se series…my friends , my brother and many more persons really liked it so much. Many person said me to carry on  my dil se series again. But its not possible … many questioned me how to make study interesting .... So here is my article upon the same.

That’s the big fuss with all of us ,how to study creatively ?  How to make it more and more interesting.Suppose you  play a game of carom, cricket, chess or whatever ….you don’t start with winning from the beginning. Its obvious that without knowing the know-how….the special skills of the game you cant do that.So lets start how to acquire those special skills. So lets us start how to acquire those special skills in studies…..

·        Refreshing mood -----

§  Obviously unless your mind is not refresh , you cant give your best. Just give an hour for study but that must be effective too.
Just release all sorts of tensions out of your mind for that hour atleast. If its hard to concentrate for whole hour …then try for just 15 minutes .Simple

·        Proper guidelines -----

§  You cant give the best until you don’t know what you are really supposed to do .So first decide what you want to do.And obviously set a time limit for that work to be finished.

·        Beat the time -----

§  Whatever you are studying ,how much hard you are studying ,give that the same required time .Suppose you have decided 1 hour for doing A/c ,but your questions are not resolved yet. Leave that subject after that hour. Because day by day your productivity will be capable enough to beat the time. So just let your mind free from the thoughts “its almost an hour …I didn’t even solved 1 question yet”

·        Rest time ----

§  Take 5-10 minutes rest after that productivity hour is over. But generally our break tend to break all the limits .And this 5 minutes break become ½ an hour break. So always wear a watch to remind you of the time of your break.
§  Don’t  take a break of eating or chatting or TV  for this 5 minutes;(.
§  It should be a break of dancing, exercise ,or aerobics…so that the break should rejuvenate you.

·        Creativity -----

§  Suppose you want to read law for 3 days , then obviously you cant change the intrinsic depth of  same subject. You will have to learn the concepts of theory and apply the same principles during case study.
§  Add creativity --- suppose till you learn the same question , start writing them
§  If you are sitting and studying then walk and study.
§  Use highlighter and different pens for notes to make it more and more attractive….in short lagna chahiye ki kaam dil se kiya hai ….
§  Its all about creativity …do whatever you want to add in your study.
§  Ahem….specially for girls it may be easy because we normally tend to do this things ..i.e for example adding more or less or changing the masalas in the dish which change the whole flavor of the dish.

·        Competition -----

§  This point is mainly important to those who do self study. Because you cant compare your competition level while sitting in home . So after finishing a part of something revise the same thing in 75 % of the same time limit you have used to learn that thing.
§  Check your level of performance level every time.
§  It will give you a blue print assessment of what you have studied and how well you studied.
§  Be a teacher of yourself .Its a must quality.

Always take help of your seniors ….as they have more knowledge than you …..normally we are not tend to do this thing;(.

Good Communication Skills

The way one communicates does not only have an impact on their own profession and personal relations, but also an effect on others. Those who do not have appropriate communication skills are usually ignored or simply kept at bay. Where are those with good communication skills are looked upon and well respected. After all a good listener and a good orator are popular in their groups - professional and personal.

Teaching communication skills can be a rather daunting task, considering that almost every individual feels that they are very good communicators. In fact, most trainers prefer to be regarded as facilitators, who are able to bring to light the nuances that occur while communicating ineffectively, rather than pointing a direct finger and saying - You all cannot communicate well'. and when this occurs the participants are ready to delve deeper within and bring out the negative aspects of their communications and replace it with the corrective measures.

Based on the communication skills training programs conducted by known experts in the field, here are some tips to good communication skills :

Maintain eye contact with the audience : This is vital as it keeps all those present involved in the conversation. It keeps them interested and on the alert, during the course of the conversation.

Body awareness : One needs to be aware of all that their body is conveying to them, as well as others. For instance, if there is anxiety rising during the course of a conversation then one feels thirsty and there maybe a slight body tremor. At that point one needs to pause and let someone else speak. A few deep breaths and some water works as the magic portion at this point.

Gestures and expressions : One needs to be aware of how to effectively use hand gestures and the way they need to posture their body to convey their messages effectively. Sometimes it may happen that they verbally convey something, but their gestures and facial expressions have another story to tell.

Convey one's thoughts : It is important for one to courageously convey what they think. This is because when things are left unsaid, then what is being spoken is not as convincing as it should be. Then a lack of confidence develops.

Practice effective communication skills : One should practice speaking and listening skills as often as possible.

In order to practice effective speaking skills one cane read passages from a book aloud, in front of a mirror, or simply perform a free speech in front of the mirror. And where listening is concerned, one can try transcribing from the radio or television, etc. this helps in honing sharper listening skills.

10 ways to overcome stress

There is an insidious problem that can sneak into your life and turn it upside down. It can wreck your health, your relationships and your career.
As you probably guessed, I am talking about stress. Yes, we’re all exposed to it, but we don’t have to become infected. Leo Babauta of Zen Habits put together his top 10 list of stress busters and I wanted to share it with you.
Stress is a major problem for many people — a hectic, stressful job, a chaotic home life, bills to worry about, and bad habits such as unhealthy eating, drinking and smoking can lead to a mountain of stress.
If your life is full of stress like mine once was, there are some simple things you can do to get your life to a more manageable level.

Now, your life will probably never be stress-free — I don’t think that’s even desirable, even if it is possible, because stress is something that challenges us and helps us grow at a reasonable level. But when stress gets too high, it causes us to be unhappy and unhealthy.

It wasn’t that long ago when I was working long hours in a very stressful job, with little time for my family. I had a lot of debt and too many bills. I was unhappy and stressed out all the time.
So I made some drastic changes. I quit my job. I simplified my life. I started exercising and eating healthier. I began to eliminate my debt. And I learned some habits that, when applied on a daily basis, can really transform the way you live, in a positive way.

How did I do all of this? One thing at a time. I didn’t do a major overhaul of my life. I changed one habit a month, and gradually over the course of a year or two changed a lot of things in my life.
I won’t guarantee that all of these will work for you. They worked for me, but each person is different. Pick and choose the ones that will work best for you, and give them a try. One at a time.

1. One thing at a time. This is the simplest and best way to start reducing your stress, and you can start today. Right now. Focus as much as possible on doing one thing at a time. Clear your desk of distractions. Pick something to work on. Need to write a report? Do only that. Remove distractions such as phones and email notifications while you’re working on that report. If you’re going to do email, do only that. This takes practice, and you’ll get urges to do other things. Just keep practicing and you’ll get better at it.

2. Simplify your schedule. A hectic schedule is a major cause of high stress. Simplify by reducing the number of commitments in your life to just the essential ones. Learn to say no to the rest — and slowly get out of commitments that aren’t beneficial to you. Schedule only a few important things each day, and put space between them. Get out of meetings when they aren’t absolutely essential. Leave room for down time and fun.

3. Get moving. Do something each day to be active — walk, hike, play a sport, go for a run, do yoga. It doesn’t have to be grueling to reduce stress. Just move. Have fun doing it.

4. Develop one healthy habit this month. Other than getting active, improving your health overall will help with the stress. But do it one habit at a time. Eat fruits and veggies for snacks. Floss every day. Quit smoking. Cook something healthy for dinner. Drink water instead of soda. One habit at a time.

5. Do something calming. What do you enjoy that calms you down? For many people, it can be the “get moving” activity discussed above. But it could also be taking a nap, or a bath, or reading, or having sex (which can also be considered a “get moving” activity if you do it for longer than 5 minutes). Other people are calmed by housework or yard work. Some people like to meditate, or take a nature walk. Find your calming activity and try to do it each day.

6. Simplify your finances. Finances can be a drain on your energy and a major stressor. If that’s true with you, figure out ways to simplify things. Automate savings and bill payments and debt payments. Spend less by going shopping (at malls or online) much less. Find ways to have fun that don’t involve spending money.

7. Have a blast! Have fun each day, even if it’s just for a few minutes. I like to play with my kids — they take my mind off everything and are really hilarious. I also like to play sports (again, often with my kids). Board games are fun. Sex, again, can be a fun activity. Whatever you choose, be sure to laugh.

8. Get creative. Throwing yourself into a creative activity is another great way to de-stress and to prevent stress. I like writing, but others like to paint or play music or sketch or make pottery or do interior design or build things.

9. Declutter. This is a favorite of mine. I like to take 20-30 minutes and just go through a room, getting rid of stuff we don’t use or need anymore. I look around at anything that’s cluttering up a room, and get rid of it or find a better place for it. When I’m done, I have a nice, peaceful environment for work, play, and living. Do this a little at a time — it can be one of your “fun activities”.

10. Be early. I will admit that it’s hard to be early when you have to get 6 kids ready (seriously — try it!). But being late can be very stressful. Try to leave earlier by getting ready earlier, or by scheduling more space between events. Things always take longer than normal, so schedule some buffer time: extra time to get ready, to commute, to do errands before you need to be somewhere, to attend a meeting before another scheduled appointment. If you get somewhere early, it’s good to have some reading material.

Frequently Asked Questions - What is XBRL

XBRL is a language for the electronic communication of business and financial data which is revolutionising business reporting around the world.  It provides major benefits in the preparation, analysis and communication of business information.  It offers cost savings, greater efficiency and improved accuracy and reliability to all those involved in supplying or using financial data.  It is an open standard, free of licence fees, being developed by a non-profit making international consortium.  Other pages on this web site provide detailed information on XBRL, its technical features and its business opportunities.

XBRL can be applied to a very wide range of business and financial data.  Among other things, it can handle:
Company internal and external financial reporting.
Business reporting to all types of regulators, including tax and financial authorities, central banks and goverments.
Filing of loan reports and applications;  credit risk assessments.
Exchange of information between government departments or between other institutions, such as central banks.
Authorative accounting literature - providing a standard way of describing accounting documents provided by authoritative bodies.
A wide range of other financial and statistical data which needs to be stored, exchanged and analysed.

See the XBRL and Business section of this web site, which gives detail on the benefits which different types of organisation can gain from XBRL.

XBRL is set to become the standard way of recording, storing and transmitting business financial information.  It is capable of use throughout the world, whatever the language of the country concerned, for a wide variety of business purposes.  It will deliver major cost savings and gains in efficiency, improving processes in companies, governments and other organisations.

Who developed XBRL?XBRL is being developed by an international non-profit consortium of major companies, organisations and government agencies.  These include the world’s leading accounting, technology, government and financial services bodies.  See About the Organisation for more information.

Who currently uses XBRL for financial information? The use of XBRL is growing rapidly around the world and the list of adopters is too big to list here. See XBRL In Action for a list of projects and users and Latest News and Project News for latest information about XBRL progress.

XBRL increases the usability of financial statement information.  The need to re-key financial data for analytical and other purposes can be eliminated.  By presenting its statements in XBRL, a company can benefit investors and raise its profile.  It will also meet the requirements of regulators, lenders and others consumers of financial information, who are increasingly demanding reporting in XBRL.  This will improve business relations and lead to a range of benefits.
With full adoption of XBRL, companies can automate data collection. For example, data from different company divisions with different accounting systems can be assembled quickly, cheaply and efficiently.  Once data is gathered in XBRL, different types of reports using varying subsets of the data can be produced with minimum effort.  A company finance division, for example, could quickly and reliably generate internal management reports, financial statements for publication, tax and other regulatory filings, as well as credit reports for lenders.  Not only can data handling be automated, removing time-consuming, error-prone processes, but the data can be checked by software for accuracy.

There are a number of ways to create financial statements in XBRL:
XBRL-aware accounting software products are becoming available which will support the export of data in XBRL form. These tools allow users to map charts of accounts and other structures to XBRL tags.
Statements can be mapped into XBRL using XBRL software tools designed for this purpose.
Data from accounting databases can be extracted in XBRL format.  It is not strictly necessary for an accounting software vendor to use XBRL; third party products can achieve the transformation of the data to XBRL.
Applications can transform data in particular formats into XBRL.  For example, web sites are in operation which transform EDGAR filings in the United States into XBRL, providing more efficient access to specific data in the filings.
The route which an individual company may take will depend on its requirements and the accounting software and systems it currently uses, among other factors.  For more information see the answer to the question on How do I start putting XBRL to use in my organisation?.

How do I start putting XBRL to use in my organisation? The first step is normally to contact your local XBRL organisation or "jurisdiction" -- contact information is under XBRL Around the World.  Programmes for the use of XBRL are already under way in many countries and you will find information on most of these under Projects in the XBRL in Action section or jurisdiction websites.  These programmes will usually provide technical support or guidance for those taking part.
We do not provide a single "starter pack" for implementing XBRL because uses and circumstances vary greatly around the world, but plenty of support is available for adopters.  If you cannot get local help, please contact info@xbrl.org.
XBRL also runs open discussion groups where non-members can ask for specific help: see the Discussion Groups page.  Members can gain support from a range of internal groups.

Where can I find software which will help me create or use XBRL? Software tools for specific tasks are listed on the Tools page on this site.  For a general list of the services and software provided by XBRL members, see the Products and Services page.

How do I find out more about XBRL?There is a lot of information on this website:  please go to the Site Guide which will help guide you on where to look for specific information.  Contact Us gives specific contacts for particular questions, while general or technical issues concerning XBRL can also be raised on our public Discussion Groups.

Why are Accounting Institutes around the world taking a major role in the XBRL consortium? A core purpose of Accounting Institutes around the world is to enhance the access, quality and breadth of financial information available to the investing public.  XBRL will help achieve this.  Institutes also believe that the development of XBRL will help position their members as valued knowledge providers for their clients.  Businesses, large and small, are undergoing fundamental change.  Accountants, as the managers of the underlying language of business, can help organisations fit into the new digital world, solve business issues and capitilise on opportunities.

Does XBRL cause a change in accounting standards? No.  XBRL is simply a language for transmitting information.  It must accurately reflect data reported under different standards – it does not change them.

The IASB is developing a taxonomy which reflects International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).  National XBRL jurisidictions will extend this taxonomy to reflect their particular local implementation of IFRS.  Taxonomies will thus be available to enable those reporting under IFRS in different countries to use XBRL, enhancing efficiency and comparability as adoption of IFRS expands around the world.

Does XBRL benefit the comparability of financial statements?XBRL benefits comparability by helping to identify data which is genuinely alike and distinguishing information which is not comparable.

Who can join XBRL?Membership of the XBRL Consortium is open to all organisations and companies of any size, from one-person consultancies to multi-national corporations or government agencies.  Academics are also welcome and have a special category of membership.

How do I join XBRL?Your company should join the local XBRL jurisdiction.  Academics can also join as members.  The section How to Join gives details.

What are the benefits of membership?Joining the XBRL consortium provides a range of business benefits.  These centre on an early understanding of the opportunities which XBRL offers, support in implementing XBRL and the possibility of gaining a significant lead in introducing XBRL in products and services.  The Benefits section gives more information about the advantages of membership.

Your organisation must join XBRL as a member for the jurisdiction or country in which you work.  You can then submit a request to register as a user of the site through the members log-in screen.   (The user registration form will show you whether your company is a member of the local jurisdiction.)   If you are an academic, you can also join as a member, and register as a site user through the members log-in screen.  If you or your company is not a member, please see the How to Join section.

TopWhat are the fees for membership?Fees vary with jurisdiction and with type of organisation.  Bigger organisations generally pay more than smaller, while academic members pay low fees.  XBRL International is non-profit making, so all fees go towards XBRL development and promotion.  Different jurisdictions may have different levels of activity so may have slightly different fee levels.  Please contact your local jurisdiction or XBRL International for more information.

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is a standard way of marking up a document so it can be published on the World Wide Web and viewed in a browser.  It provides a set of pre-defined tags describe on how content appears in a browser.  For example, it describes the font and color of text.  It gives little information on meaning or context. XML (Extensible Markup Language) uses tags to identify the meaning, context and structure of data.
XML is a standard language which is maintained by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).  XML does not replace HTML; it is a complementary format that is platform independent, allowing XML data to be rendered on any device such as a computer, cell phone, PDA or tablet device.  It enables rich, structured data to be delivered in a standard, consistent way.  Whereas HTML offers a fixed, pre-defined number of tags, XML neither defines nor limits tags.  Instead, XML provides a framework for defining tags (i.e. taxonomy) and the relationship between them (i.e. schema).
XBRL is an XML-based schema that focuses specifically on the requirements of business reporting.  XBRL builds upon XML, allowing accountants and regulatory bodies to identify items that are unique to the business reporting environment.  The XBRL schema defines how to create XBRL documents and XBRL taxonomies, providing users with a set of business information tags that allows users to identify business information in a consistent way.  XBRL is also extensible in that users are able to create their own XBRL taxonomies that define and describe tags unique to a given environment.

What is the difference between XBRL and FpML, Fix, FinXML, OFX, XML/EDI? Are all of these efforts needed? All of these identified efforts are transaction-oriented specifications for specific purposes  except for XBRL. XBRL is reporting-oriented.  All of these efforts are needed since they all serve different purposes.  As these transaction-oriented specifications grow and develop, the need for business reporting that captures aggregate transactions becomes even more important.  As a result, XBRL becomes more critical to organizations using XML technology.

XBRL 2.0 published in December 2001 had a 41 page specification and the 2.1 Specification of December 2003 has over 150 pages. What accounts for this? Many of the pages consistute the XML Schemas defining XBRL, and the change log.  In the remaining pages, there are many more examples, fragments included from the defining schemas, greater detail about pre-existing XBRL 2.0 features, and detailed explanations of the new features.

How will users benefit from the more detailed technical exposition of existing features In XBRL 2.1? There have always been restrictions on what is a meaningful taxonomy schema, meaningful linkbase, and meaningful instances.  In the past many of these criteria were implicit; these criteria are now part of the specfication.  In some cases, they may be enforced using XML Schema, requiring no new code to be written, and in other cases the specification enables vendors to write correct validation code.  Examples of these technical enhancements include:  a detailed exposition of handling variable precision numbers, prohibitions on certain kinds of loops in relationships, and prohibition of duplicated data in instances.  The meaning of calculation links and their ability to express relationships between items in different tuples has been specified precisely.

What are the new XBRL 2.1 features that developers and users can choose to benefit from?Domain experts and application developers can now encode more precise information about financial reporting concepts in XBRL taxonomies.  They can also define the handling of new relationships not defined by XBRL itself.  New relationships allow taxonomy authors to connect taxonomy definitions to authoritative definitions and other supporting documentation.

A number of taxonomies which are compliant with Specification 2.0 are published on the XBRL International web site.  Will these be upgraded to comply with Specification 2.1?Yes, we expect taxonomy authors gradually to upgrade their taxonomies to 2.1.  This is a prerequisite for conformance with the Financial Reporting Taxonomies Architecture (FRTA) 1.0.  However, 2.0 versions of these taxonomies may may also be made available at the discretion of the taxonomy authors.

What does the XBRL 2.1 conformance suite consist of? The conformance suite consists of over 250 example taxonomy fragments (XML Schema and XLink files) and instance documents, containing both valid and invalid usage.  It will help application developers ensure their software processes XBRL correctly.

Who developed the XBRL 2.1 specification? The XBRL International Domain Working Group developed a detailed set of requirements which were then implemented by the XBRL International Specification Working Group.  For a complete list of editors, contributors and other individuals involved, see the text of the specification.

Where can I obtain a set of XBRL 2.1 documents to test my software with? The XBRL 2.1 Conformance Suite is posted in a large (more than 5MB) zip file on the XBRL International web site, alongside the XBRL 2.1 specification. The Conformance Suite contains over 250 separate XBRL instances.  Although the instances are small, there is a subset of them that are specifically designed to exercise each feature of an XBRL instance and their interactions.

What kind of database should be used with XBRL? XBRL is a format for exchanging information between applications.  Therefore each application will store data in whatever form is most effective for its own requirements and import and export information in XBRL format so that it can be readily imported or exported in turn by other applications.  In some applications, for example, the XBRL formatted information being used may be mostly tabular numeric information, hence easily manipulated in a relational database.  In other applications, the XBRL information may consist of narrative document-like structures with a lot of text, so that a native XML database may be more appropriate.  There is no mandatory relationship between XBRL and any particular database or other processing or storage architecture
